ABC Movie of the Week opening sequence, created in 1969
ABC Movie of the Week opening sequence, created in 1969
Pre-CGI motion graphics accomplished with slitscan camera, designed by Harry Marks. "The info I can give you on Movie of the Week is from my perspective at ABC. I was head of On-Air Advertising (promo) at the time and Barry Diller had this idea for made-for-television movies, He named it "Movie of the Week" and created a new television format. He asked me to come up with a special title treatment for this new concept, and I enlisted someone I'd recently met, Doug Trumbull, whose last job was '2001, A Space Oddysey'. "Doug had come to the office looking for work after working on 2001 for several years in England. I hadn't seen the movie, but he had the out-takes of the "Stargate" sequence with him. When I saw them I knew there had to be a way to transform Doug's brilliant abstractions into something that used typography. It worked and set the path for television graphics that followed." - Harry Marks (www.tvparty.com "The slitscan camera was basically an animation stand on steroids. The camera was mounted on a track which moved toward a large slit, behind which back-lit artwork passed, for each exposure. The moving camera caused the artwork to "scan" in the third dimension. This was not computer graphics, but a camera trick." - Mark Simonson typographi.com

VFX Showreel HD - Mospeada Upgrade [CGI]
I'm Joseph Yeo from Korea, and now I live in Toronto, Canada. This is my very first work. And it took over 1 year to finish it. I referenced a Japan animation called 'Mospeda(1983)' to make this work, and I posted here (www.youtube.com I expressed in 3D after reinterpreting and upgrading in my style. The scenes show the character is dispatched to site after notified the armed robberies broken into a bank, and it is transformed and combined with a motorbike. The wireframe scenes are shown in the concept of inquiring personal information in security police database. I would like to create sensational and creative videos which can touch people's hearts. I love CGI Used program: Softimage XSI, Mentalray, After Effect, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, FumeFX Used source: SWAT intro, Pro-motion, Digital Juice Please visit my blog~ sephdl.blogspot.com Thank you.

While employed as a CGI Animator for Star Trek, Doug Drexler met and became fascinated with Jacque Fresco and his world-of-tomorrow designs and ideas. In this interview (one of the DVD extras on the Future by Design 2-Disc Collector's Edition DVD) Doug explains how he met Jacque, and why he went on to design these amazing CGI Animations for The Venus Project and, ultimately, Future by Design.

Early CGI Facial Animation (1974)
Early CGI Facial Animation (1974)
Surprisingly early -- and slightly creepy -- parametric facial animation created at the University of Utah in 1974(!). Update: I'd initially reported this as having been created in 1972, the date given on the SIGGRAPH reel. YouTube user 'rarevision' informs me that the book "Handbook of Virtual Humans" more likely dates this from 1974. The earlier date might've been confused with another film by Ed Catmull and Fred Parke at the University of Utah. That film can be sen here: vimeo.com

Yes you read correctly, TECH demo. She IS the demo. Until the 1:30 mark when they revert back to the source (the real actress), her entire face is being simulated by the technology. Peace out uncanny valley! ps. Thanks to perrygood&true for the HD source material for this upload. ps2. Fyi, Times Online broke the coverage on this particular before any other site. Tiny Bouncing Objects CGI Music Video Jason Ward
Tiny Bouncing Objects CGI Music Video Jason Ward
Be sure to check out Tiny Bouncing Objects 2.0 with more advanced and spectacular CGI! www.youtube.com One of my favorite compositions, "Tiny Bouncing Objects" new age elctro pop music with an all new completely 100% computer generated imagery CGI music video. This project has kept me busy for a long time, but even then it ended up on the back burner because it was eating so much time to produce. I never completed my grand vision of this video due to the enormous amount of time it was taking. In the end I reused several video segments at least 2 times, something I didn't want to do in the beginning. The various segments of video took in excess of 30 computer hours to render and about a month of my time to assemble and animate using Vue 7 Pioneer. Sadly I was unable to get the render kit for Vue to remove the logo in the lower right corner. Hopefully I can remove it and release this project again in the future. The CGI graphics were fun to produce and allowed me to get my feet wet in rending complex animations using Vue. Animated music is fun and sort of brings me a sense of awe. Tiny Bouncing Objects is a lively upbeat electronic pop, or electro-pop style piece. I'm sure listening to this piece of music can lighten up almost anyone's day. Thanks to AniMusic for the inspiration. Creating the synchronization of movement and light to the music is a very time consuming task and I give many Kudos to AniMusic for the fantastic work they do. CGI History
CGI History
This is a video I did for my college CIS 120 class in the spring '07 semester... it's a short history of Computer Generated Imagery, or CGI. may be some slight inaccuracies. the audio voice over is pretty bad quality. I was doing it on a friends PC with a super cheap mic using windows sound recorder, hah. ...and... the last few seconds prove that it was part of a presentation...

Tron CGI Sequences Tribute Part 1of2
Tron CGI Sequences Tribute Part 1of2
All the Computer Graphics from the Movie Tron. In full length and chronological order. But this time - CGI (Computer Graphic Images) only! The exception proves the rule. : ) This Version contains NO music from Wendy Carlos! (Diese Version enthält KEINE Musik von Wendy Carlos!) Sad not to hear the wonderful and unique soundtrack of W.Carlos but she, or probably more the Record Company, were not amused by my first Tribute - and it got deleted. So i did a Carlos-Music-Free Version of the Tron CGI Shots Tribute this time. All Music is from ISAO TOMITA! Tried to keep the Spirit as far as possible... and Isao Tomita fits perfectly, in my humble opinion. Quote Wiki: "To create the computer animation sequences of Tron, Disney turned to the four leading computer graphics firms of the day: Information International Inc. of Culver City, California, who owned the Super Foonly F-1 (the fastest PDP-10 ever made and the only one of its kind); MAGI of Elmsford, New York; Robert Abel and Associates of California; and Digital Effects of New York City. Bill Kovacs worked on this movie while working for Robert Abel before going on to found Wavefront Technologies. More than 500 people were involved in the post-production work, including 200 inker and hand-painters in Taiwan. Tron has a distinctive visual style, as it was one of the first films from a major studio to use computer graphics extensively. Three designers were brought in to create the look of the computer world. Renowned French ...

Wings 3D Demo: speed modeling a couch.
This is an old video, when I made this I didn't have access to current features like magnet masking that would have been handy. Still it shows how easy it is to model something in Wings 3D. Time is sped-up a bit so that the video fits under YouTube's 10 minute limit.
